This Australian Curriculum HASS Year 4 Explorers Unit- Geography and History Pack features fun, engaging, and cooperative learning strategies for examining American, African and Australian history.
It consists of 10 lessons to be speed across 10 weeks. The units examine America and Africa along with two important explorers to their history - Christopher Columbus and Henry the Navigator. It also looks at the First Fleet as they made their way to Australia and Captain James Cook who paved the way for them. To keep lessons simple and succinct, the planner features five to six steps for each lesson. This unit has been a consistent hit every year with my students. Teachers need to use their own skill to ensure the lessons remain explicit and teaching opportunities are not missed.

Pack Includes:

  • Planner (5 pages)
  • Worksheets (20 pages)
  • Resources (33 pages)

Australian Curriculum Alignment:

  • History: ACHASSK085 and ACHASSK084
  • Geography: ACHASSK087

Inquiry Skills:

Please note one of the lessons in this unit requires you to get photos and information on a local important place. All other resources needed are included.

Also, please note that SCSA (WA) lists Africa and Europe as the countries for year 4 which is different to the Australian Curriculum. Alternative resources have been included to alter some of the South America lesson to Europe but a separate planner is not included.
