Description
In this engaging Year 3/4 drama unit, students explore where, why and how drama is created and performed across different cultures, times and contexts — with a strong focus on drama created by First Nations Australians. Aligned to the Version 9 Australian Curriculum, this 10-lesson unit invites students to reflect on the cultural significance of storytelling and how drama can communicate connection, celebration, and identity.
✩ Students learn through hands-on activities, reflection, and group collaboration, drawing from a variety of traditions and cultural perspectives — including puppetry, physical theatre, and visual storytelling. The unit also supports students to view drama as a form of communication shaped by time, place and audience.
✩ Each lesson is designed around a warm-up activity and follows a clear, easy-to-follow structure. Lessons are practical and thoughtful, providing space for students to perform, respond and reflect.
✩ Summative assessment is included in Week 10, where students perform a short piece inspired by a cultural story or form and reflect on the choices they made.
